WEH Communication Programme

Submission 2006

Information regarding the call for applications for the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Förderprogramm of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V. (DPG), a programme to support the scientific communication between young physicists

Young academics are the most important target group for the activities of the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Stiftung (foundation). In 1989 the foundation and the DPG installed a programme to support young physicists at an early stage of their scientific career and to present their scientific results to an expert audience. Within the scope of this programme the active participation in a spring conferences of the DPG as well as conferences of the EPS and IUPAP (as long as they take place in Europe) is financially supported.

Students in Germany who would like to participate in these conferences and do not get their travelling expenses refunded by their academic institution, can claim expenses as a part of this grant. Entitled to the programme are authors and co-authors who submit a scientific contribution in the form of an oral presentation or poster, which is accepted by the head of the division. Only one participant per scientific contribution will be supported. The support is limited to DPG members of the fee categories E, A and 3 (Category 3: graduates and doctoral candidates).

Advice for those applying for a grant

Please submit your scientific contribution first. It has to be registered online at www.dpg-tagungen.de. After receiving the confirmation for the submission, including a registration number you may apply for a grant within the scope of the programme. It is necessary to be a member of the DPG and to have the membership number at hand. The deadline for the application is the same as the deadline for the registration of scientific contributions at the particular conference. Please note that applications submitted after the particular deadline cannot be taken into consideration. A successful submission will automatically generate a notice of arrival. The DPG head office will only reply if the application needs to be rejected. Such a rejection will be not later than the end of January 2006. The processing of the applications at the DPG head office is handled by Ms Conny Theodor ().

At the beginning of the conference you will receive an identification form at the conference office. The participation in the conference must be approved by the conference desk. After the conference the form has to be turned in to the DPG head office (DPG-Geschäftsstelle, Hauptstr. 5, 53604 Bad Honnef, Germany) by May 12, 2006 at the latest. Late documents cannot be taken into consideration.
From the total budget being available and the total of requested grants a proportion will be calculated. This quota is limited to an upper limit of 50 percent. After the release of the grants the money will be transferred to the accounts of the applicants. Do not forget to inform us, if your bank account has changed in the meantime.

The Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft thanks the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Stiftung for the generous financial support of young academic talents. We hope that young physicists will continue to seize the chance offered here for the active scientific communication at conferences like about 12.000 young academics did before.
